The Punishment System How It Works: The number one rule of the captains is do not harm fellow crew members. The Moira doesn't have a strict environment, but that one rule is asked to be followed. What normally would result in hold time, the captains believe is no longer enough to keep crew from harming one another. This has brought about the creation of the punishment system. The rules are simple. If you physically injure another crew member or murder them, you are required to comment to this page using the form below. You will be asked to pick three different punishments from the stages below, each vary in how extreme they are, and to put those punishments into the comment you make using the form. From the date that you post here until three days later, players will be allowed to respond to your comment with a vote. This vote is what their character believes is a worthy punishment for the crime committed. The captains will not vote unless there is a tie. ICly: A MID message will be sent out detailing the events; it will have an attachment of the footage (only in the case of a murder, all other events will not show footage) with it. Crew members will be asked to seek out the captains in the mess hall and relay their vote as to the offenders punishment. Currently, a new system is in the works. Find out more here. Flynn is horrified by a lot of things here, and not just Rinzler's actions. This whole system is messed up. Who sends out footage of murder like that? To everyone? There are children on this ship!

As for casting judgement, there he really struggles. His hands aren't clean either, but at least he knows there were good reasons there.

He can't help himself. He wants to believe there's more to this than what they've been shown. He kind of liked Rinzler in their brief interaction so far.

Why? How is this justified? Why did you do that?

[Rinzler's first reaction is to stare. There's really not a lot of potential mistake who Carsen's addressing, but the video is clear, and the users told their side. He hadn't really figured anyone would bother asking him about it.

Finally, he types a word into his MID.]

Clarify.

[He's done a lot of apparently-horrifying things. Gonna have to be a little more specific.]

[Flynn gives himself a shake and sets his gaze firmly on Rinzler. Fine, then, make him say it.]

The first person you killed in those videos. [And he does hate having to qualify that.] There"s no record of how it started. Did you have a reason? Did you have a reason for any of it? What would the consequences have been if you hadn't killed them? I'm not seeing a defensible motive here and I want to understand.

[There's nothing more frustrating to him than that. Everyone has reasons for what they do, even if those reasons are twisted and detached from reality. He's hoping this time they're not. Self defence. Ship defence. Something necessitating killing.]

[Rinzler meets that stare, but apart from a faint increase in the harsh rumbling, there's no outward reaction to the user's frustration. Still, he answers. More or less.]

Attacked. Threat.

[As far as Rinzler's concerned, that answers all three cases. And all three questions. He doesn't expect it to satisfy—he killed users, and no reason would ever qualify as a defense for that. But it's the truth.]

[He almost feels relieved, although still dismayed that the exciting spaceship adventure has turned out to have an unpleasant side after all. A very unpleasant side.

He ducks his head a little. If what Rinzler's saying is true, Flynn can't condemn him. Try to persuade him to stop short of lethal action, maybe, but not condemn.]

[Rinzler shrugs a little, helmet dipping in assent. Yes. He'd wanted to attack it when he'd found it rifling through his belongings—why he'd been assigned to stay with multiple malware eluded Rinzler completely. But he hadn't struck first.]

Nobody should have died. Whatever else, we're all in the same boat here. Literally. We all have to do better than this or there won't be a crew left by the time this ship's ready to send anyone home.

[He votes Category 2 for the purposes of rehabilitation, choosing to believe in self defence and accident, and does so quite openly.]
