The Punishment System How It Works: The number one rule of the captains is do not harm fellow crew members. The Moira doesn't have a strict environment, but that one rule is asked to be followed. What normally would result in hold time, the captains believe is no longer enough to keep crew from harming one another. This has brought about the creation of the punishment system. The rules are simple. If you physically injure another crew member or murder them, you are required to comment to this page using the form below. You will be asked to pick three different punishments from the stages below, each vary in how extreme they are, and to put those punishments into the comment you make using the form. From the date that you post here until three days later, players will be allowed to respond to your comment with a vote. This vote is what their character believes is a worthy punishment for the crime committed. The captains will not vote unless there is a tie. ICly: A MID message will be sent out detailing the events; it will have an attachment of the footage (only in the case of a murder, all other events will not show footage) with it. Crew members will be asked to seek out the captains in the mess hall and relay their vote as to the offenders punishment. Currently, a new system is in the works. Find out more here. Cordelia suggests therapy as an alternative to solitary confinement, but if she actually has to vote for one she will vote for category 2. Also, she extends an invitation to Sans to come see her in her capacity as Interpersonal Relationships Officer, if he ever needs some advice or just someone to talk to.

Category 2 with 3. She doesn't know anyone involved nor care about remorse but she doesn't think time in the hold or alone is much of a punishment.

Miller votes Category 2 because of the lack of remorse. But still thinks he could use visitors.

Niko and Doc Yewll will be abstaining. Niko because while he prefers peer judgement, he also doesn't like to judge people himself. Especially after what he's done. Doc Yewll is still feeling guilty from the last judgemental vote she had to cast in canon and won't feel right about casting another.

Megs will vote for 3, and consider it an astoundingly light punishment for Sans' behavior.

He won't be very happy with Chara's actions either, but that doesn't make it acceptable to kill them. He'd probably push for Chara to be kept in the hold until they can ensure they won't be a threat to more crew members.

Alice isn't sure why there isn't an airlock option. The situation wasn't a matter of self-defense, but mutiny and flat-out murder.

So: Category three, though she'll suggest additional, combat-trained supervision and/or power nullification whenever he's off of the ship.

It's not about punishment, or at least it shouldn't be. It's about protecting the crew and keeping this level of violence from cascading. The Moira can't afford for situations like this to regularly continue — and anything less than severe is going to create a sense of calculus: If you can kill for comparatively little cost, it becomes a valid way to solve your problems.

And that's going to make this a hell of a long roadtrip.

Given that his ability to kill people will be controlled in the future, Steven is just going to vote for Category Three and call it a day.

He feels really awful that someone died because of this, either way, and just hopes that people remember this and take murders more seriously in the future. It's unnerving to know that the revival process isn't perfect.

Jasper votes category three, although she notes that this is a massively inadequate punishment and that this kind of uncontrollable behaviour should be met with execution. Giving him back his powers at the end of the two weeks suggested seems foolish in the extreme – but she was already skeptical about discipline on board this ship.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR CLARIFICATION

Details:

ICly Ade had no knowledge that he could cause Athena's permanent death- he killed her under the proviso that she'd probably come back from cryo within a few days to continue being a thorn in his side / commence round three.

Although he will not suddenly be remorseful once he realizes Athena is permanently dead (because, well, he's a murderer and this isn't the first time) but he'll actually be pretty satisfied that she's no longer about to piss him off. The details of her being permanently dead will be delivered to Ade at the same time that the rest of the ship find out.


Additional Punishment: To ensure this situation with Ade never arises again because it was clearly a real concern for people, he'll be fitted with a chip that registers his brainwaves/thoughts- the moment Ade makes the conscious decision to kill a crew-member ( whether directly or indirectly such as tearing the ship to pieces) said chip will send a pulse through his brain rendering him unconscious where he'll be gathered by mana bc she big and strong and placed in the hold for 24 hours. No, this does not mean Ade will suddenly stop being violent, he can still fight, you can all just rest assured the big meanie can't kill anyone on board as the signal is sync'd to the presence of an MID.


So please, go ahead and vote on which punishment you're going to go for (which is clearly going to be category 3 lbr here) I hope this adjustment is satisfactory for other player's needs and I meant no harm nor hindrance in helping create this plot, my apologies for any offense/irritation/misunderstanding/grievance caused.

No problems though! I admit, I didn't rly understand the punishment page / didn't know it existed until I quickly hashed this out in a rush as we're backtagging the whole murder thing.

SECONDING THIS, the additional punishment pretty much totally solves the problem. Just knowing that there is something preventing future murders goes a long way.

Breq will vote for Updated Category 3, namely due to the lack of remorse on Ade's part, and in interest of keeping something like this from ever happening again.

That is was ever allowed to happen in the first place will give her serious pause for concern of the running of the ship and the safety of the crew.
