The Punishment System

How It Works:

The number one rule of the captains is do not harm fellow crew members. The Moira doesn't have a strict environment, but that one rule is asked to be followed. What normally would result in hold time, the captains believe is no longer enough to keep crew from harming one another. This has brought about the creation of the punishment system.

The rules are simple. If you physically injure another crew member or murder them, you are required to comment to this page using the form below. You will be asked to pick three different punishments from the stages below, each vary in how extreme they are, and to put those punishments into the comment you make using the form. From the date that you post here until three days later, players will be allowed to respond to your comment with a vote. This vote is what their character believes is a worthy punishment for the crime committed. The captains will not vote unless there is a tie.

ICly: A MID message will be sent out detailing the events; it will have an attachment of the footage (only in the case of a murder, all other events will not show footage) with it. Crew members will be asked to seek out the captains in the mess hall and relay their vote as to the offenders punishment.

Currently, a new system is in the works. Find out more here.

Failure is, as Loki knows, its own punishment, and he can't exactly say all that much about attempts to murder people. And he never has had all that much faith in justice- although the pre-meditated attempt to execute someone doesn't seem terribly just to him, either way.

And then he abstains from voting, because really, who asks Loki what a fair punishment is, particularly in a case where he's most likely biased?

Any appearance of rationality is probably a lie.

Rinzler's not paying close enough attention to Sans to pick up everything, but hate certainly doesn't come as a surprise. Abstaining does, and there's a slightly puzzled glance his way before Rinzler mentally shrugs and writes it off.

Definitely for the best Miles was elsewhere-- Rinzler's utter unconcern for his anger wouldn't have helped anything. As things stand, he's just another tally on a rapidly increasing list.

If asked, Rinzler would provide more data, but the fact that no one's bothered doesn't come as a surprise. Neither does Bel's speech. He'll meet Bel's stare impassively for the most part, though that noise will start picking up around random thrashings-- Rinzler's had enough lectures recently about how he's an animal in need of leashing, thanks all the same. He knows he doesn't have a place here.

The vote itself surprises Rinzler a little, but it doesn't really matter. As far as he's concerned, even the smallest expenditure of thought about those program standards should tell Bel why. They'd rather judge him and tell stories than acknowledge the truth-- about what Rinzler is, or about how he'll be corrected. That's fine. It barely even makes them different than the rest.

Neal considers everything, weighs the options, and honestly things even the cat 3 might not be enough for impulse control when it comes to, well, not killing. But still, he goes for Category 3 and would add that after a month if he still seems to be a threat, that maximum should be extended.

I think Deacon lays out the reasoning in the first paragraph, but keeps the synth slave comparison to himself. (He totally drops the terrible "mercy" word into the conversation, though.)

Neal votes Category 2 because it was a planned trap.

Rinzler's been a little puzzled by some of the votes before, but Tex is the first one to openly startle him. There's a sideways quirk of the helmet-- almost an open question, before he remembers himself. It might not be a complete surprise that she doesn't prioritize users the way the others do, but... Rinzler was fairly sure she disliked him, too.

Neal votes for Category 2 solely for pre-meditation.

Miles isn't able to attend in person, so he submits his vote by MID: Category 2. Whatever her reasons -- and Miles isn't a huge fan of Rinzler, either -- her and Peter's actions had some serious collateral damage.

That's exactly why Bel wants someone to observe him every day for weeks, talk to him, ask him questions, and get a better reading on him. Preferably someone who's trained to ask those questions Bel is not a therapist, punitive or otherwise. Or a trained anthropologist, despite curiosity. But especially not a therapist. Neither the punishment nor the environment can make any difference until there's someone on the ship who can translate between his inner world and everyone else's.

When the rumbling sharpens, Bel's only reaction will be a troubled look of acknowledgment. The reason choosing murder instead of proportional force is unacceptable, Rinzler, is because you are not an animal.

The abstention gets a glance, though Rinzler's pretty much on track with his regular lack of cares through most of it. But he'll go dead still at the suggestion that his programmer fix him... and then give Tali an incredulous stare at the suggestion that he get a say.

Rinzler's pretty sure that's not how this works.
notglitching: (red - weapon)

[personal profile] notglitching 2016-04-14 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Rinzler doubts things will be a problem after a month, and not because he thinks highly of their rehabilitation plans. He doesn't react to Neal's vote, though.
notglitching: (red - look away)

[personal profile] notglitching 2016-04-14 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Rinzler meant being asked about the sequence of events-- whether what happened off-camera with Vorrick or the stories Wanda told. Unfortunately, as he's keeping all his cynical retorts inside his head, this distinction won't get far. :P

Ryan abstains from these just as a general rule, but since he actually knows and likes Alice? He's just showing up to +1 the "this system doesn't work" sentiment.

(Her reason, though, is that it's the only one overtly guaranteed not to interferer with his transporter work).

Category two, for the same reason she chose it for Peter. Her expression is the same she gave Peter: Disdain with a side of a complete lack of respect. She somehow gets even less respect because she volunteered for her own trial, honestly.

Good luck educating this child later, Alice
